The importer Cape Classics has announced the addition of Petite Sirène to their portfolio through a partnership with Third Growth Bordeaux estate, Château Giscours in Margaux. This collaboration brings two wines into the U.S. market: Petite Sirène Bordeaux Sauvignon-Sémillon 2016, and Petite Sirène Bordeaux Cabernet Sauvignon-Merlot 2015.
This is the second Bordeaux winery to join the Cape Classics book this year, following Château du Raux.
Petite Sirène Bordeaux Sauvignon-Sémillon 2016 has aromas of citrus and exotic fruits with a hint of smoke, the company reports. The mineral-driven mouthfeel boasts fruit and acidity. Petite Sirène Bordeaux Cabernet Sauvignon-Merlot 2015 is a ripe red Bordeaux with berry aromas. Notes of red fruit combine with gentle tannins, the company says, balanced by juicy acidity.
The suggested retail price for both wines is $19.99 per 750-ml. bottle.
“We wanted to approach Bordeaux in the exact same way we did the Loire and Burgundy—find stories that need to be told and wine that over-delivers for the price,” says Robert Bradshaw, president and COO of Cape Classics. “With Petite Sirène by Château Giscours we found both.”
Though the label reads Petite Sirène, the production of the wines — from terroir selection to bottling — is controlled by the winemaking team at Giscours. Grapes are sourced from a producer with terroir in Côtes de Bordeaux, whose vines are situated on slopes that overlook the Garonne. They benefit from clay-gravel and clay-limestone soils, a warm climate and southwestern exposure, the company says.
The trellised vines range from 10 to 20 years in age and are pruned in the Double Guyot method, chosen for ideal bunch distribution, the company says. The wines are certified in agriculture raisonnée (sustainable agriculture).
