2017 Domaine de Cala Rosés

Chef Joachim Splichal, founder of the Patina Restaurant Group, has launched two new rosé wines: the 2017 Domaine de Cala Rosé and 2017 Domaine de Cala Prestige Rosé.

Both come from Splichal’s family-owned winery in Brignoles, Provence.

The 2017 Domaine de Cala Rosé (13.5% ABV) showcases a pink-salmon color with clear reflections. Blending grenache, cinsault, syrah red varietals with rolle (French for vermentino) white grapes, the wine greets the nose with aromas of floral and citrus notes, the company says, evolving into red fruit and spicy aromas. On the palate the wine has a mix of cherry and citrus aromas, followed by a long, spicy finish with minerality. Ideal to pair with red meat or an aperitif.

The 2017 Domaine de Cala Prestige Rosé (13% ABV) is an elevated take on the original rosé, and features increased proportions of syrah and rolle varietals for a four-grape blend, which then goes into oak barrels for three months. The wine has aromas of citrus and white peach, the company reports, with secondary scents of light woody notes and nutmeg. On the mouth, Prestige has a gentle push of peach and spicy aromas, which finishes with light woody notes that enhance the mineral and saline character of this wine. Ideal to pair with a seafood platter.

The suggested retail price for the 2017 Domaine de Cala Rosé is $15.95 per 750-ml. bottle, while the Prestige Rosé retails for an SRP of $25.95 per 750-ml.
