Thompson Tractor Certified as Women’s Business Enterprise by WBENC

Thompson Tractor, headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama, has announced that it has been officially certified as a Women’s Business Enterprise by the WBENC (Women’s Business Enterprise National Council).

The dealership is led by Lucy Thompson Marsh, who succeeded her father in 2019 as the fourth generation of the Thompson family to serve as the company’s president and COO. She became CEO in 2021.

The WBENC certification “is the most widely recognized and respected national certification for women-owned businesses in the U.S.,” notes the company on its blog. In addition, points out the dealership, the certification offers several potential benefits to its commercial customers, including:

CEO Lucy Thompson Marsh
  • Supplier diversity: “Many corporations and government agencies are looking for supplier diversity when choosing subcontractors. For some corporations and agencies, it is a requirement that their subcontractors make reasonable efforts to use diverse suppliers. These requirements vary for each agency/corporation. As a certified WBE, Thompson Tractor can add diversity to [a company’s] suppliers.”
  • Tax incentives: “Many states provide tax credits to businesses who use the service or products of minority or woman-owned businesses. These benefits are different based on the state and industry in which a company operates.”
  • Promotes diversity: “More and more corporations are committed to promoting diversity in all aspects of their business, and the importance of diversity in business continues to rise (hbr.org). Hundreds of major U.S. corporations and government agencies are members of the WBENC who have committed to working with WBEs.”

Thompson Tractor, which began operations in 1957, has full-service facilities in Alabama (Alabaster, Birmingham, Decatur, Dothan, Huntsville, Mobile, Montgomery, Oxford/Anniston, Shelby County, Thomasville and Tuscaloosa) and Florida (Panama City and Pensacola).
