Wichita, Kansas Launches Rebate Program for Non-Combustion OPE

The City of Wichita, Kansas is encouraging the use of electric, battery-operated and self-propelled outdoor power equipment by offering $50 rebates to residents purchasing new non-combustion lawn equipment and recycling their old combustion equipment.

Qualifying items include:

  • New equipment only – not used or refurbished;
  • Corded electric, battery-powered or self-propelled (self-propelled applies to mowers only);
  • Lawncare equipment including mowers, edgers, string trimmers, hedge trimmers and leaf blowers (other landscaping/garden equipment does not qualify for rebate).

The rebate is available for up to two purchases per household; equipment must be purchased between April 1, 2022 and December 31, 2022.

The recycle of old gas or diesel lawn equipment must be done at a recycle partner location. In addition, old equipment “must be recycled in an approved and appropriate manner that will prevent further use or reuse of the old device.”
